Last week was a very busy week, and it all ended with the Allergy and Free From Show North, in Liverpool. I was approached by their events team and asked if I would be interested in doing a cookery demonstration for Doves Farm, luckily for me they’d had someone drop out four weeks before the event, so obviously I said yes!
Although I was excited, I was also very terrified. What if no one turns up? What if LOADS of people turn up and I crumble, or I set the entire exhibition alight? I was definitely petrified, and the more I thought about it the more worried I got. I was sent the guest chef guidelines, which mentioned something like ‘we must keep burning pans to a minimum as the venue hasn’t got the best ventilation’… This worried me as the dish I made required heating vegetable oil in a wok.
I love the Allergy and Free From Show, and this was my second year attending; I love trying all the new brands and new food combinations, and just generally coming across some new favourite products!
My demonstration was on the Sunday, right smack bang in the middle of lunch time and was located in the guest kitchen at Doves Farm. I made Crispy Chilli Beef Noodles, (click here for the recipe), because having a tasty homemade Chinese takeaway at home is so much cheaper, and tastier than the real thing!
I did meet some really interesting people some with coeliac disease and some with a variety of other food allergies; and I hope those who came to the demonstration found it useful and enjoyed the tasters!
