On the 7th and 8th November, the Allergy and Free From Show arrived in Liverpool. Held at The Exhibition Centre, the show was packed full of some great gluten-free stands. Brands including Amy’s Kitchen, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Delicious Alchemy.
Tasting gluten-free beer and discovering new gluten-free goodies was a great way to spend our Saturday! The brand I most enjoyed discovering was Delicious Alchemy. I’ve struggled baking cakes that don’t fall apart and the Delicious Alchemy Vanilla and Brownie mixes looked divine.
And the results? Well, I’ve only tried the Vanilla Sponge Mix so far (main picture), and they didn’t crumble apart and they actually tasted like normal cakes! I’ll definitely be buying that mix again. I’ll keep you updated on the Chocolate Brownie Mix!
If you want to check out their products visit them here at Delicious Alchemy.
I tried the fruit cake mix – twice! And I can assure you it’s the best mix I’ve ever used. I coated it in marzipan for Christmas and there’s some more sliced in the freezer which I bring out two slices at a time.
The only qualification I’d raise with ready-made bought cakes/biscuits is that they’re SO high in sugar – plus they have ingredients and additives we’d never use cooking at home.
Try flapjacks with less sugar than the recipe suggests, or macaroons (ditto) – 3 ingredients, I dare you to mess them up!
(By the way, we met at the GF baking day .)
Hi Maureen,
Yes, I remember meeting you! Yes the shop-bought mixtures are probably more so for convenience, although nice for a treat, too!
